Jesus returned to the Mount of Olives,<\/span> but early the next morning he was back again at the Temple. A crowd soon gathered, and he sat down and taught them.<\/span> As he was speaking, the teachers of religious law and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in the act of adultery. They put her in front of the crowd.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cTeacher,\u201d they said to Jesus, \u201cthis woman was caught in the act of adultery.<\/span> The law of Moses says to stone her. What do you say?\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

They were trying to trap him into saying something they could use against him, but Jesus stooped down and wrote in the dust with his finger.<\/span> They kept demanding an answer, so he stood up again and said, \u201cAll right, but let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!\u201d<\/span><\/span> Then he stooped down again and wrote in the dust.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

When the accusers heard this, they slipped away one by one, beginning with the oldest, until only Jesus was left in the middle of the crowd with the woman.<\/span> Then Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, \u201cWhere are your accusers? Didn\u2019t even one of them condemn you?\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cNo, Lord,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

And Jesus said, <\/em><\/strong>\u201cNeither do I. Go and sin no more.\u201d<\/em> <\/strong>– John 8:1-11<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Two others, who were criminals, were led away to be put to death with [Jesus].<\/span> And when they came to the place that is called The Skull, there they crucified him, and the criminals, one on his right and one on his left.<\/span> And Jesus said, \u201cFather, forgive them, for they know not what they do.\u201d<\/span> <\/strong><\/span>
<\/em><\/p>\n

One of the criminals who were hanged railed at him, saying, \u201cAre you not the Christ? Save yourself and us!\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/sup>But the other rebuked him, saying, \u201cDo you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation?<\/span> \u00a0<\/sup>And we indeed justly, for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.\u201d<\/span> \u00a0<\/sup>And he said, \u201cJesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.\u201d<\/strong><\/span> \u00a0<\/sup>And he said to him, <\/strong>\u201cTruly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.\u201d<\/strong> – Luke 23:32-34, 39-43<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

The Bible is filled with accounts of people in desperate situations. Too many alone in circumstances they can’t seem to escape. Maybe some of us have known that kind of isolation, self-hatred, hopelessness. Singer, songwriter Matthew West<\/a> brings these people, these lost and wounded ones, into the light. Into the light of God’s love…and ours, if we don’t turn away. “Mended”<\/em> is West’s speaking forth the Gospel of Christ over brokenness…as if Jesus is speaking to the wounded one, through the lyrics of the song.<\/p>\n

In closing, I’d like to shine a light on a young Christian man who is shining light on persons broken by addiction in the Kensington area of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Mal Love<\/a> is a filmmaker and he is capturing stories of these people, on the streets, prisoners of their addictions. He brings a Godly dignity to them and shows genuine care for them. Talking to them, filming their stories, asking what they need and doing what he can to provide (food, beverages, pillows, recovery helps). He has even administered Narcan when encountering someone who’d overdosed. You can see and hear these stories every day as he goes out onto the streets – on Instagram<\/a>, Facebook<\/a>, or his YouTube channel<\/a>. Mal gives us the opportunity to look into faces of people Jesus loves and pray for them. Whew!<\/div>\n
