Meetings.<\/p>\n<p>We live and work these days in a culture of distraction where focus is a rare commodity.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;The culture of distraction makes your ability to think deeply and creatively constantly threatened. Conceiving ideas and putting them into practice requires time for reflection, and for that you need a <strong>personal organization method<\/strong> like <a href=\"https:\/\/facilethings.com\/blog\/en\/ultimate-guide-to-gtd\">GTD<\/a>: <strong>if you are able to create a space where you can think and reflect, you will be able to move forward<\/strong> with more things, with less energy and less time.&#8221;<\/em> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/facilethings.com\/blog\/en\/culture-of-distraction\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Francisco S\u00e1ez<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Doing research this morning on focus, I came across the Tweet below:<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-twitter\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"474\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">When you see the adjective &quot;smart&quot; applied to things, as in smart home, smart clothes, smart toys, smart phone &#8212; substitute the term &quot;hackable.&quot; They always come together.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Kevin Kelly (@kevin2kelly) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/kevin2kelly\/status\/1073103112007634944?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 13, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>All these devices can make our lives <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/hackable\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hackable<\/a>, too. Our deep thinking time&#8230;our complex problem-solving capability&#8230;vulnerable.<\/p>\n<p>What can we do to recover our focus? Those two killers are screen distractions (smart phones\/tablets) and meetings.<\/p>\n<p>He offers 5 easily executable ways out of our mental chaos and into focus. They are listed below but don&#8217;t miss his commentary on each <a href=\"https:\/\/getpocket.com\/explore\/item\/the-two-things-killing-your-ability-to-focus?utm_source=pocket-newtab\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Practice mindfulness.<\/li>\n<li>Organize tasks.<\/li>\n<li>Clean up.<\/li>\n<li>Shrink meetings.<\/li>\n<li>Preserve buffers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I am personally very easily distracted. To make these few adjustments is worth getting my focus back. Thoughts?<\/p>\n<p>Oh&#8230;last thing: Treseder also wrote a thought-provoking piece on <a href=\"https:\/\/fromthegreennotebook.com\/2018\/09\/25\/how-to-develop-a-mission-mentaility\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>How to Develop a Mission Mentality<\/em><\/a>. When we have set the &#8220;why&#8221; and &#8220;who&#8221; of our daily focus, we are compelled to stay at the task and bring others with us.
