Are we to separate ourselves from the suffering of this world? Can we look away in good conscience?<\/p>\n

Absolutely not.<\/p>\n

Yet…the brokenness in this world weighs heavy on us. Too often the darkness pushes in and touches our own lives. We experience the evil in the pain of loved ones, in the images of war and suffering around our world. We long for it to be different.<\/p>\n

Some blame God…such bold assertions when we don’t have to look far at all to see how our own sins (or the sins of our fore-fathers and mothers) have cut a path of destruction for others to follow.<\/p>\n

No…my whole understanding of God is that He is good. His love is perfect. His mercies are fresh every day toward us.<\/p>\n

So what do we do with this in-between? This not-yet? This dark before the dawn?<\/p>\n

What do we do in these days?<\/p>\n

What do we do? A friend recently reminded us of the walk with God that will eventually and victoriously take us home:<\/p>\n

We humble ourselves<\/strong> (“and He will lift us up”<\/em> – James 4:10<\/a>). Humility is having a right understanding of who we are in relationship with God and with each other. We need God and we need each other.<\/p>\n

We keep our heads up<\/strong>, focusing our eyes on the One who saves, who loves us, and who will deliver us.<\/p>\n

We hold our hands out<\/strong> to one another. God made us for community. Wide, far-reaching, loving, long-suffering, life-giving community. There is joy there.<\/p>\n
