While writing earlier this morning, I clicked on my search engine, and the article below by Darius Foroux<\/a> popped up as recommended reading. It had been collected by Pocket<\/a>, this great website that “houses” all sorts of fascinating articles by authors one might not know to search for. Unfortunately (sidebar), Pocket is shutting down later this summer (for reasons not fully revealed), and I will miss it. Anyway, back to 10 Practical Answers to 10 Powerful Questions<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Darius Foroux, author and entrepreneur, takes the time and thought to answer 10 questions submitted by a reader named Mary. They are great questions. I’m going to list the questions and his answers in brief. Go to his website <\/a>to read the whole of his answers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. What\u2019s the one quality that everyone must have?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Persistence, perseverance, determination, grit\u2014call it whatever you want.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When you give up without a good reason, you\u2019ll never know how your life could<\/em> end up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. What\u2019s the one book you suggest everyone to read?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Crime and Punishment<\/a> by Fyodor Dostoyevsky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s a book about thinking…[it] goes so deep that you can\u2019t help but get touched by Dostoyevsky\u2019s writing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. What\u2019s one powerful piece of advice for living a fulfilling life?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Get clear on what you want.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Decide what you want. And be firm with your execution. Don\u2019t deviate from the path. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. What\u2019s one piece of important financial advice?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Don\u2019t try<\/em> to make money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When you try hard to make money, you\u2019ll become unethical and focus on the wrong things. When you focus on providing genuine value, you will be rewarded for your help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. What\u2019s one skill that everyone must have?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Writing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Writing is thinking…when you become a better writer, you\u2019ll also become a better thinker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6. What\u2019s one thing that you regret starting late or wished you started earlier?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Investing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m talking about adopting the mindset of an investor. I never thought of everything you do in life as investing. Working out, reading, taking classes, spending time with people who matter to you\u2014it\u2019s all investing because these activities have a return.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

7. What\u2019s one thing you learned the hard way?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Doing something is different than reading about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

8. What\u2019s one thing that should never be forgotten?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

You\u2019re never alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Life gets hard sometimes. And for some of us, our natural instinct is to solve everything by ourselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seek out people who share the same values<\/a> as you. Become friends. They will help you when the time is right. And vice versa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

9. What\u2019s one thing we must not think twice on spending?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This is obvious, but my answer is \u201cbooks\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A few years ago, I acted like a cheapskate when it came to books.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do yourself a favor, if you see a book that might<\/em> help you\u2014buy it<\/a>.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

10. What\u2019s your definition of life in 50 words?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

No one knows what they are doing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s life in 7 words. And it\u2019s something I truly believe in. It\u2019s what keeps me sane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
