A Psalm Of David<\/strong>
1 <\/strong>The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
2<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet (still) waters<\/strong>,
3<\/strong>\u00a0he refreshes my soul, He guides me along the right paths for his name\u2019s sake.
4<\/strong>\u00a0Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil,\u00a0for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
5<\/strong>\u00a0You prepare a table before me\u00a0in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil;\u00a0my cup overflows.
6<\/strong>\u00a0Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord\u00a0forever.<\/em> – Psalm 23<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

My husband rarely travels for work these days, but this week he’s been away. He’s back today, but when he is away, the house is unusually quiet. Especially at night. Now for some of you, this is a common experience. Being just you at home in the dark of night. For me, for now, it is still a wrestling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As I turn off the lights and lock everything up, settling into bed and the quiet, this old house seems to wake up. With all kinds of little creaking noises. What they do is stir up in my mind all the thoughts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Life is like that. Get quiet and then intrusive thoughts get loud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For many months, I’ve had an early morning practice, on waking, of quoting the Lord’s Prayer <\/a>and Psalm 23<\/a>. It’s a habit that kick-starts my day-before grabbing my phone or drinking that cup of coffee. This week, I’ve been going to bed also with Psalm 23 on my heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then one day in the car, I heard singer, songwriter Leanna Crawford<\/a>‘s version, and it has been on repeat this week. “Still Waters”<\/em> is such a beautiful anthem to the kindness and gentleness of our Shepherd God. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
